Gravity produces an unequal distribution of axing in the tip when the shoot is growing sideways. With more auxin in the lower part it cause the lower side to grow faster bending the shoot upwards

What is auxin?

It may not survive because no auxin is available

How does a plant capture more sunlight?

When the light shines down on a plant, the auxin elongates on the shaded part so the plant moves towards the sun capturing more light for photosynthesis

Because it causes the weed to grow to quickly and die.
