Army volunteers attacked a Cheyenne village, killing many and resulting in the Cheyenne fighting a war against settlers for 4 years. |

Red Cloud led the Sioux in attacks on forts along the Bozeman trail. They surrounded Fort Phil Kearney. |

Second Fort Laramie Treaty: |
The Great Sioux reservation was created. The Sioux destroyed all the settlers forts when they left. |

1874 The Seventh cavalry discovered gold in the Black Hills. |
This resulted in the Black Hills being invaded by miners. The U.S army were unable to prevent this and the Fort Laramie Treaty was broken once again |

The Southern Herd was destroyed by buffalo hunters killing them for their hides. |
This meant that The Indians were losing an important resource. |

Indians bands that had not returned to their reservations were attacked. This campaign led to the Battle of Little Bighorn. |
