  • Back
The branch of Physics that deals with forces and the way they produce and change motion .
Mechanics
The total lenght of a path that an object travels.
Distance
The change in the postion of an object desribed by a vector that begins at the initial position of the object and ends at its final position.
Displacment
The distance that the object moves in a unit of time.
Speed
The motion of an object traveling in a circular speed at a constant speed.
Uniform motion
The time rate of change of its displacement. A vector quality having direction and magnatitude.
Velocity
An object's change of position along a straight line.
Linear motion
The velocity of an object at any particular instant in time.
Instantaneous velocity
The force between the mass of Earth and the mass of any object.
Gravity
The falling motion of an object acted upon only by the force of gravity.
Free fall
The single force that is equivalent to the combined effect of these concurrent forces.
Resultant
The resistance of an object to a change in its motion
Inertia
Vector sum of the concurrent forces acting on an objct.
Net force
An object moving uniformly in a circular path which is an acceleration directed toward the center of the cicle.
Centripetal acceleration
The force needed to keep an object moving in a circular path.
Centripetal force
The attractive force between two objects due to their masses.
Gravitational force
The force pressing the two contacting surfaces together.
Normal force
The product of an object's mass and velocity and is a vector quantiy.
Momentum
