Simple harmonic oscillator
Any physical system governed by a restoring force, described by a quadratic potential well, and which is executed periodic motion.
Simple harmonic motion
F=-kx - motion that results when an object to a restoring force. X is the object's displacement from its equilibrium position - the position where it experiences no net force.
Simple harmonic motion & F=ma
ma=-kx
Angular frequency
Omega (w) = SQRT(k/m)
frequency, f
Number of oscillation cycles the object undergoes each second
period, T
the amount of time it takes the object to undergo one complete oscillation cycle
Relate frequency and period
f = omega (w)/2pi = 1/T
Potential energy related to harmonic motion
U = (1/2)kx^2
