Processing Delay
Time required to examine the packet's header and determine where to direct the packet.
[no formula - depends on router]
Queuing Delay
Time a packet is waiting in the queue to be transmitted onto the link.
[no formula - depends on how full queue is]
Transmission Delay
Amount of time required to push, transmit, all of the packet's bits into the link. (Microseconds to milliseconds)
Dtrans = L/R
L = length of the packet (bits)
R = transmission rate of the router (bits/second)
Propagation Delay
Time requrired to propagate from the beginning of the link to router B. A bit propagates at the propagation speed of the link.
Dprop = d/s
d = distance between router A nd router B
s = propagation speed of the link (in range from 2 * 10^8 m/sec to 3 * 10^8 m/s - around or less than speed of light)
Bandwidth Delay Product
= R * Dprop
Length of bit
= length of link / bandwidth delay product
= length/ (R * Dprop)
1 Kb = ? bits
1000
1 Mb = ? bits
1,000,000
1 Gb = ? bits
1,000,000,000
Connection flooding attack
A SYN flood attack, leaving half open connections.
