What is fremitus?
tactile vibrations transmitted through the bronchopulmonary tree to chest wall when pt. speaks. More solid areas=more vibrations
What is the significance of a high diaphram?
large space between diaphram at inspiration and expiration= pleural effusion. High diaphram=atelectasis, or diaphragmatic paralysis
What is COPD?
Chronic bronchitis or emphysema

Excessive mucous production in bronchi
What is emphysema?
alveloi lost elasticity, collapse on itself
what is asthma?
hyper-reactivity of bronchial tree resulting in inflammation, hypersecretions and bronchoconstriction
what is a pneumothorax?
air leakage into the pleural space creates loss of - pressure and causes lung to collapse. can be caused by puncture of a bleb (fluid filled areolar sac) or penetrating injury
what is a pneumonia?
inflammation of lung tissue caused by bacterial, viral or mechanical causes

Alveoli fill with fluid or pus
what are scotomas?
blind spots in visual field
what does the pinhole test tell you?
If it helps to look through a small hole to focus on something, it is a functional problem (lense can't accomodate etc) if it doesn't help its a structural problem
what does Os, Od, Ou mean?
Os- oculus sinister (left eye) oculus dexter (right eye) oculus uterque (both eyes)
what is hemianopsia?
half of visual field is defected
what is entropion? ectropion?
Inverted lower eye lid. extraverted lower eyelid.
what is ptosis?
drooping of eye lid (s)
what is hordeolum?
infection or inflammation of the margin of the eyelid
what is blepharitis?
swelling of the margin of the eyelid with redness, scaling and crust
what is pterygium?
benign growth of the conjunctiva usually starting at nasal moving across eye, probably due to sunlight
how do pupils constrict/dilate?
CNII oculomotor nerve. Constriction (parasympathetic innervation of sphincter m.) Dilation sympathetic radial muscles in iris
what is a sign of glaucoma?
increased size of optic disc in the physiological cup
