What are the five events of the Maintenance Phase?

LOA, Crew Certification, Dock Trials, Navigation Assessment, Contractor Sea Trials.

What is the maintenance phase?

Establish material foundation to support Basic Phase training, subsequent operations, and maintenance/ modernization to meet ship’s expected service life.

What is LOA?

Light off assessment. Conducted by EAA/EAP with ISIC and ATG support. Make sure there is safe light off and operation of engineering plant prior to exiting CNO availability. Ship must have operational repair 5 allowance equipage list for demo of MSFD.

What is Crew Cert?

Conducted by ISIC to review the ship’s training PQS to support safe operations at sea. (fully manned and qualified watchbills).

What happens during dock trials/ fast cruise?

ISIC supervised. Train crew and prove equipment is prepared to get underway.

What is navigation assessment?

ISOC conducted in conjunction with Contractor Sea trials.

What happens during contractor sea trials?

Contractor assessment of ship’s operation after CNO availability.

What is the Exit Criteria of the maintenance phase?

- Availability work certified by RMC.


- Successful completion of all READ-E 4 events.

What is shakedown phase?

Verifies ship’s material condition to support basic phase. Begins after contractor sea trials and concludes after TYCOM sea trials.

What are the events of the Shakedown Phase?

Overall it’s the READ-E 5 which is the Post-Availability TSRA, Tier 1 and 2 material checks, TYCOM sea trials, and CMAV.

What happens during the post availability TSRA?

Three week HME and C5I assessment to evaluate equipment required to support Tier 1 and 2 of Basic Phase. Occurs after CNO availability and with Shakedown Phase CMAV.

What happens during Tier 1 and 2 material checks?

TYCOM and ATG coordinated (CCC 1.1 check sheets).

What happens during TYCOM sea trials?

Verify ships ability to perform functions that support the ship’s primary functions.

What is the Exit Criteria for the Shakedown Phase?

P - Fit/ fill @ 90%. Crit schools 80% complete and 100% scheduled.
