What drug class is Albuterol
Sympathomimetic broncodilator
What are the pharmacology actions of Albuterol
Albuterol is a selective beta 2 adrenergic bronchiodilator causing smooth muscle relaxation with minimal beta 1 or alpha stimulation. It inhibits histamine release reducing mucus secretion and mucosal edema.
What are the indications for Albuterol
Bronchospasm, Hyperkalemia, crush syndrom
Contraindications for Albuterol
Hypersensitivity and symptomatic tachycardia (Absolute)
Cardiac arrhythmia's and hypertension (relative) |
Percautions and side effects of Albuterol
Termors, anxiety, dizziness
Headache, diaphoresis Angina, palpations Tachycardia CNS stimulation Hypersensetivity |
Dosage for Albuterol
2.5 to 5.0 MG via Nebulizer PRN
Drug Class for Valium (Diazepam)
Anti-anxiety, sedative/hypnotic, anti convulsant
What is the pharmacology and action of Valium (Diazepam)
Diazepam is a benzodiazepine sedative and skeletal muscle relaxant that reduces tremors, induces amnesia and reduces teh recurrence of seizures. it relaxes muscle spasms in orthopedic injuries and produces amnesia for painful procedures.
What are the indications for Valium (Diazepam)?
-Seizures, status elipticus
- Premedication before cardioversion - Muscle tremors due to injury - Acute anxiety attack |
Contraindications for Valium (Diazepam)
Shock, coma, Depressed vitals, neonates
what are the precautions and side effects for Valium (Diazepam)
Hypotension,
tachycardia edema cardiovascular collapse |
Dosages for Valium (Diazepam) include
2-5 MG for anxiety IV/IM
5-10 MG for seizures IV/IO/IM 5-15 MG IV/IO premedication |
What drug class is Nitroglycerine?
Nitrate, anti-anginal
What are the pharmacological actions of Nitroglycerine
Cardio:
-Causes peripheral dilation, reducing preload. - Decreases periphreal resistance - Dilates coronary arterise and relieves cardio spasms Other: - Vasoldilation of the cerebral arteries, increasing blood flow to the brain - Generalized smooth muscle relaxation Onset: 1-2 minutes |
What are the indications for Nitroglycerine?
-Angina
-Chest pain suggest of an MI -Pulmonary Edema |
What are the contraindications of Nitroglycerine
- Hypotension
- Chest trauma -Cerebral bleeding -Head trauma - Increased ICP - Use of ED drugs - Hypersensitivity |
Precautions and side effects of Nitroglycerine include.
-Hypotension, do not administer when BP is <90 mmHG systolic. If it develops lower patients head and administer IV fluids
-Use caution in the presence of right sided MI or inferior MI Side effects include: - Headache, flushing, dizziness, tachycardia, burning under the tongue |
What is the dosage of Nitroglycerine?
0.4 MG tablet or spray SL, may repeate every 5 minutes as needed for pain.
NOTE: Check BP after each dose. Nitro is light sensitive and outdates after 6 months. |
What drug class is Atrovent?
Parasympatholitic (anticholenergic) bronchiodialator.
What are the pharmacological actions of Atrovent?
Atrovent causes bronchiodialation and respitory secretions through competitive inhibition of the cholinergic receptorsors on the bronchial smooth muscles. Atrovent also abolishes Vagally mediated reflex of bronchospasms
What are the indications for Atrovent?
Asthma and COPD
What are the contraindication of Atrovent
-Hyper sensitivity to atropine and atroven derivatives
- Atrovent is not the primary treatment for bronchospasms |
what are the precautions and side effects of Atrovent
Dry mouth
GI distress N/V nervousness headache dizziness Palpations Blurred vision |
What is the proper dosage of Atrovent
Adult : 500 mcg in 3ml of saline via nebulizer
What drug class is Vasopressin (Pitressin)
Hormone, Vasopressor
What are the pharmacological actions of vasopressin.
Vasopressin is a hormone with strong vasopressive and antidiuertic properties. Use of basopressin may precipitate angina or an AMI. Vasopressin increased peripheral vascular resistance making CPR more effective and reducing bleeding in esophageal varices.
What are the indication for Vasopressin
Cardiac Arrest
Esophogeal varices |
What are the contraindication for Vasopressin?
-Ischemic heart diseas outside of the cardiac arrest
- PVC's - 1st stage of labor - Chronic nephritis with nitrogen retention |
What are the precautions and side effects of Vasopressin?
Hypertension
Bradycardia PAC's Heart Block |
What is the proper dosage of Vasopressin
40U IV/IO
