Drug
A chemical Substance (natural or synthetic) that "affects the processes of the mind or body."
Pharmacognosy
Comes from root words meaning "drug" and "knowledge". It has reference to "that branch of pharmacology which deals with the biological, biochemical, and economic features of natural drugs and their contituents."
Pharmacodynamics
Reference to "the effects of the drug on the body." Includes the biochemical and physiological effects and the mechanisms by which the drug acts.
Pharmacokinetics
Reference to the activity of drugs once they are in the body; or, "the effects of the body on the drug." This includes the "processes of absorption, distribution, localization in the body tissues, biotransformation (chemical transformations that occur within the body), and excretion."
Pharmacotherapeutics
Study of how drugs are used in the treatment of disease.
Pharmacopeia
"authoritative treatise on drugs and their preparations," or a book "containing a list of products used in medicine."
Toxicology
Scientific study of poisons, their actions, their detection and the treatment of conditions produced by them.
Pharmacology
