CONTRAS:
Emphysema
Asthma

ADVERSES:
Nausea, vomiting, drowsiness, dizziness, irritability, and restlessness

DECONGESTANT

Reduces volume of nasal mucus recommended for the temporary relief of nasal congestion

MECH:
Constricts nasal mucous membranes

Tension, anxiety, restlessness, tremor, insomnia, and weakness

* Use a humidifier, drink plenty of fluids, and avoid smoke-filled rooms

MECH:
Enhances output of respiratory tract fluids by reducing adhesiveness & surface tension of the fluids = liquifies lower resp tract secretions
(makes it easier to cough them up)

ADVERSES:
GI symptoms, headache, and dizziness

* eat small, frequent meals to alleviate GI upset *

* do not use for longer than 1 week*

* smokers have a decreased mucocilliary elevator *

* pts need FLUIDS with this *
