What does Digoxin do to cardiac function?
Increased CO, control of arrhythmias, reduced blood volume, heart rate, venous pressure, and heart size, increased contractility
MOA of digoxin?
Inhibits Na/K ATPase

(Increased intracellular Na and Ca due to Na/Ca exchanger)
What is Digoxin used for?
Treatment of congestive heart failure, atrial fibrillation, supraventricular, tachycardias
Adverse effects of Digoxin?
Arrhythmia, worsening of heart failure, GI upset
What type of drug is Pimobendan?
Vasodilator and positive inotrope = Inodilator
MOA of Pimobendan?
* Sensitizes cardiac contractile apparatus to intracellular Ca

* Inhibits Phosphodiesterase 3
What is Pimobendan used for?
Dogs with congestive heart failure secondary to dilated cardiomyopathy or chronic mitral valve insufficiency
What does Pimobendan do to cardiac function?
Decrease heart rate, increases contractility, atrial and venous vasodilation
Adverse effects of Pimobendan?
poor appetite, lethargy, diarrhea, dyspnea, azotemia, weakness, ascites
What type of drug Hydralazine?
Arteriole dilator
What does Hydralazine do to cardiac function?
Reduces peripheral vascular resistance and afterload, Increases stroke volume and CO
MOA of Hydralazine
Alter Ca metabolism in vascular smooth muscle
Use of Hydralazine
Reducer of afterload in congestive heart failure, especially in mitral valve insufficiency
Adverse effects of Hydralazine?
hypotension, reflex tachycardia, Na/H2O retention, GI upset
What type of drug is Diltiazem?
* Ca Channel blocker (L-type)- Vasodilator

* Inhibits influx of extracellular Ca into vascular smooth muscle and myocardial cells
What does Diltiazem do to cardiac function?
Vasodilator and reduces contractility, heart rate, and afterload
Use of Ditiazem?
Hypertension, atrial fibrillation, supraventricular tachycardias
Adverse Effects of Diliazem?
Effects: bradycardia, vomiting (cats), hypotension, arrhythmias, elevates liver enzymes
What type of drug is Amlodipine?
Ca Channel Blocker-Inhibits Ca influx in cardiac and vascular smooth muscle
What does amlodipine do to cardiac function?
* Vasodilator and reduces conduction velocity in cardiac muscle

* Weak Cardiac activity
Uses of Amlodipine?
Hypertension (cats), decreased blood pressure in renal disease (dogs)
What type of drug is Carvedilol?
* Beta 1 and 2 antagonist
* Alpha 1 antagonist
