Sympathomimetics
-Act directly by binding to and activating adrenergic receptors.
-Act indirectly by causing the release of norepinephrine in the presynaptic neuron, OR by inhibiting the reuptake or destruction of norepinephrine.

Prototype: phenylephrine
Anticholinergics (cholinergic blocker)
Block acetylcholine by competing for binding with the muscarinic receptors. Suppressing the action of acetylcholine causes symptoms of adrenergic stimulation.

Prototype: atropine.
Parasympatholytics
(anticholinergic)

blocks acetylcholine receptors

Prototype: atropine
