Lipopeptides (Daptomycin)
Contains a lipid portion on drug for insertion. has a calcium dependent binding process to the membrane. Daptomycin aggregates and forms a pore allowing for ion passage. Synthesis is stopped. Active against growing or static bacteria. Used for soft tissue infections. Active against MRSA, VRSA, VRE
Polymyxins B and E(Colistin)
Binds to phospholipids and disrupts membrane. Detergents. Last resort against some Gm- organisms.
Metrolidazole
(misc). Antiprotozoal drug llike trichomonas vaginalis. Active against anaerobes like c. dif, h. pylori, b. fragilis. Get free radical that damages DNA. Metallic taste and headache. Disulfuram reaction in alcohol use where you get hypotension and flushing.
Spectinomycin
misc. Structurally similar to aminoglycosides. Used for N. gonorrhoeae including PPNG. Nothing against syphilis. Alternative to cephalosporin allergies.
