What are the horizontal rows in the table called?
Periods
What are the vertical called?
Groups
What can you determine from the Atomic #?
The # of Protons
How do you find the # of neutrons?
Round the atomic mass and subtrat the atomic# from it.
How can we find the number of electrons in the periodic table?
The number of electrons and protons is equal.
What type of charge does a proton have?
Positive +
What type of charge does a neutron have?
Neutral 0
What type of charge does the electron have?
Negative -
What are the most common elements in the periodic table?
Metals
How are elements arranged on the periodic table?
By their Atomic #.
How can we predict the properties and behavior of an element?
By their group.
Why are noble gasses called that?
Because their energy shells are full.
What are valence electrons?
Electrons in the it's outermost shell.
What are Alkali Metals?
Unstable elements with only one electron in the outer shell.
What are Haologens?
Elements with seven valence electons in their outer shell and need one more electron to fill their outer shell.
What are positive Ions?
An atom that has lost an electron and thus has more protons than electons, so is positively charged.
What are negative Ions?
An atom that has gained an electron and thus has less protons than electons, so is negatively charged.
