What was the pourpose of the pendulum lab?
To see how gravity would effect the pendulum if we changed the mass, length and angle.
What is Newton's 1st law of motion?
An object at rest stays at rest, and an object in motion stays in motion until acted on by and outside forse.
Define period of the pendulum.
The time it takes the pendulum to go back and forth.
What three independent variables of the pendulum were studied in order to answer the purpoes?
a. mass
b. length
c. angle
Define independent variable.
Something we change each time.
What are the three null hypotheses tested in this lab?
The lenght, mass, and angle do not change.
Which of the null hypotheses were rejected? Accepted?
Rejected: lenght
Accepted: mass, angle
Define constant as in a science experment.
Something that doesn't change.
What does the turm unwanted affects mean in an experment? How do scientists try to control unwanted affects?
Things that get in the way of the experment like tables or people. Make sure everyone and everything is out of the way. Start the pendulum the same way every time.
Describe how the length of the pendulum was an independent variable in the experment.
When the lenght of the pendulum was shorter the time increased
Describe how lenght was used as a constant in the experment.
The speed was the constant, all of the lengths travled at the same speed.
Why do we try to test only one independent variable at a time during an experment?
If we changed two or three at a time we won't find a pattern.
Which independent varible of the pendulum changes the period of the pendulum?
length
State the relationship between this independent variable and the period of the pendulum.
The shorter the pendulum travled the same distance at a faster speed.
Explain, by using a diagram for each independent variable, why the other two independant variables of the pendulum had no effect upon the period to the pendulum.
Mass:explanaton-all objects fall at the same speed due to gravity.
Angle:exlanation-all objects acceleerate as they fall due to gravity
NOTE use your notes in class to do the diagram.
