guided-discovery activites (spatial)
(mature/intermediate level)
children learn how to practice the skill, learn more about it, and use it in a variety of situations.
Steps to follow when planning a stability skill theme
-pre plan
-observe and assess
-plan and implement
-evaluate and revise
exploratory activities (spatial)
(initital or elementary stage)
-children develop their spatial abilities by learning how their bodies balance alone and in relation to other people and objects
Stability
the ability to sense a change in one's body parts that alter one's balance.
AND the ability to adjust rapidly and accurately after the change
static balance
a stationary posture, upright or inverted, in which the center of gravity remains stationary and the line of gravity falls within the base of support
dynamic balance
involves controlled movement while moving through space, so the center of gravity is constantly shifting
upright supports
(static or dynamic balance skills)
-maintaining one's equilibrium when the body is placed in unusual positions
Ex- bear dance
springing movements
involve forceful projection of the body into space in either an upright or an inverted position
Ex- straddle jump, handspring
body rolling
to move through space around its own axis while momentarily inverted
4 components of stability
-axial movements
-springing movements
-upright supports
-inverted supports
axial movements
non-locomotor stability movements in which the axis of the body revolves around a fixed point
Ex- bending, stretching, twisting
dodging
sliding accompanied by running and involves quick, deceptive changes in direction
inverted supports
supporting the body momentarily in an inverted position
Ex- headstand, handstand
