Contraindications: major surgery, organ or other biopsy, major trauma within 6 weeks; recent neurosurgery; head trauma within past month

relaxes coronary and systemic arteries, decreases workload of heart, decreases HR
SE: hypotension, peripheral edema, flushing, headache, GI upset

Caution: check HR before
metoprolol (Lopressor)
Beta-adregenic blocker
slows HR, decreases O2 use by heart
SE: bradycardia, hypotension, CHF, PVD, bronchospasm, impotence
