What is cryptorchidism?
Undescended testis when one or both testes is outside the scrotum
What is the most common genetic abnormality connected to cryptorchidism?
Klinefelter male
What are retractile testes?
testes that may reside in the inguinal region due to a hyperactive cremasteric muscle
What is the treatment of choice for a cryptorchidism?
orchiopexy
A one-week old baby is brought into the office with the chief complaint of white discharge, what do you tell the mother?
White discharge is common after birth due to fetal stimulation from maternal hormones. It can last for a week or so and can become blood-tinged a few days after birth
What are the presenting symptoms of epididymitis and urine study findings?
Can be B/L but usually unilateral, gradual onset and usually acute; urine studies negative
What are the most common infectious organisms responsible for epididymitis?
S. aures, N. gonnorhea, Chlamydia and E.coli; also can be caused by trauma, autoimmune dx and colitis
What can untreated epidymitis lead to?
orchitis, and abscess formation
What do you see on doppler to differenciate between testicular torsion, epidymitis and orchitis?
TT and Orchitis: flow is asymmetric with symptomatic side pointing to diagnosis
- TT: decreased flow on symptomatic side
- Orchitis: increased flow on symptomatic side
E: flow to testicles is bilateral and symmetrical
