May 1381 - What happend in Fobbing?
A tax collector wqas chased out of the town, starting the revolt which spread to Norfolk, Suffolk, Kent and Essex
What were many of among the peasants?
Ex soldiers from the 100 years war
What did Wat Tyler do in Canterbury?
He took over Canterbury and released John Ball from prison
Who were the Peasants angry at?
They were angry at the Arch bishop of Canterbury (Simon Sudbury) and the Treasurer (Robert Hales)
What happend on their march to London?
The peasants attacked manor houses, burned all tax records and destroyed goverment buildings
12th June - How many peasants were outside London?
There were 60,000. The ones from Essex were at Mile End and those from Kent were at Blackheath.
Where did Richard hide?
He hid in the tower of London with his advisors - Simon of Sudbury and Robert Hales.
What happend when Richard sailed to Blackheath?
Richard brought Sudbury and Hales with him, and when the peasants saw the kings advisors they started shouted; 'kill them', so Richard had to retreat.
What happend when somebody opend the gate for the peasants?
They ran riot, burning down the King's uncle's palace, they broke into fleet prison. They also killed laywers and foreigners in the street
What happend when Richard II met Wat Tyler at Mile End?
Wat demanded; an end to the fuedal system, for all the peasansts to be able to work for their lords for free and for the kings advisors to be killed
What was Richard's reply?
Richard agreed to all of this except the killing of his advisors, most of the peasants seemed happy and went home with a pardon from the king
