God is Building A Marvelous Temple

We have received incredible blessings from God

- We have an unbelievable future (10-11)
The Holy Spirit has given us -
- He has sealed us (13)
- He has become the earnest of our inheritance (14)
What is the connection between appreciation and growth?
appreciation brings about growth
II. We need to understand the potential God has given us (1:15 -23)
Paul prays for our understanding through - the hope of our calling; the glory of His inheritance; the greatness of His power.
What is a connection between understanding and growth?
understanding brings about growth.
III. God is building His temple out of “junk” (2:1-22)
He began at the moral cemetery – (1-10)
He began at the moral cemetery – (1-10)
- walking dead; by nature children of wrath (1-3)
- In mercy and love He brought us to life (4-7)
- He saved us by grace through faith (8-9)
- and gave us a new purpose (10)
He began with mortal enemies (11-18)
– He has given the Gentiles STATUS that they never had before (11-13)
- He has reconciled Jewish people with Gentiles (14 -17) and abolished the law
- His goal is to create "in Himself" out of former enemies “One New Man” (15)
Both Jewish people and Gentiles have equal access to the Father (18)
He has given each piece of “junk” status (19 - 20)
God is mixing together people that don't mix. He is making them fellow citizens in Himself thus making peace (19)
He is fitting each piece of “junk” into a big picture being built together (21 -22)
He is transforming each piece of “junk” into Holiness – a Holy sanctuary (21-22)
IV. God has granted Paul insight into an amazing “mystery” (3)
The mystery was hidden in the Old Testament – but God is now revealing it Paul and the other Apostles (1-5)
The mystery concerns the composition of the body of Christ – (6-9)
Gentiles are given “equal footing” and are now fellow-heirs; fellow-members; fellow-partakers.
The outworking of this mystery will display the incredible brilliance of God. (10 -13)
– God’s purpose for the church should be an encouragement for all believers.
Paul wants God’s temple to be filled – (14-21) People need to understand Christ love; Christ presence; and be strengthen by the Holy Spirit
V. Our responsibility is to Walk Worthy – we are to become what we are – a Temple! (4)
Stick together – maintain the unity God has already created; Accept differences – God has created diversity in the body; Minister/Serve
VI. We walk worthy by “Putting on the New Man” (5)
Growth depends on eliminating the old way of walking – now we walk in love, light and wisdom.
VII. We walk worthy by “walking in submission” (6)
Marriage flourishes through mutual love and submission; Husband needs to Love and the wife needs to submit; family life is based on submission, job life is based on submission (PERFORMANCE, ATTITUDE, MOTIVE, UNDERSTANDING), even a boss needs to submit.
VIII. We walk worthy by Walking in God’s Power – the armor of God (6:10-20)
Truth, Righteousness, Readiness, Faith, Salvation, The Word of God, Praying Always, Watching Thereto
Romans 1 - The Good News is the Power of God unto Salvation
I. The Good News begins with a person –
Paul, as Mr. Good News carried a great message – it is an Old Testament message; a Christmas message, an Easter message; and a Power message. He lived for others, and followed someone else’s direction.
II. The Good New begins with the anger of God –
Everyone knew enough about God to make the right choice. People turned from what they knew about God; God responded with wrath. We were designed for light, worship, and restraint.
Freedom only brings slavery of a worse kind – the prison of dirt, desire, and dementia.
Romans 2 – The bad news about the Prodigal’s Brother
I. Self-righteousness blinds people to their problems A)the fact that they judge suggests their character; B) a judge sins like a sinner sins.
II. Self-righteousness blinds people to God’s perfection – God’s judgment is based on truth, judgment is based on deeds.
III. Self-righteousness blinds people to their privileges – Jewish people commonly boasted in their privileges, their privileges enabled them to make their lives worse, their privileges became meaningless.
Romans 3 – God has provided a gift for sinners
I. There is some benefit in being Jewish
II. Both Jews and Gentiles have sin cancer – there are no exceptions; sin cancer has invaded the mouth and the heart.
III. The Law makes the cancer stand out
IV. But God has provided His righteousness – God’s righteousness is available to ALL sin-cancer victims. The gift was made possible by Jesus Christ and the gift puts Jew and Gentile on a “level playing field”
Romans 4 – 5 – God gives unbelievers gifts to those who believe
I. He gives His righteousness (4:1-25) – two OT heroes were both saved the same way – by faith (Abraham and David; two major OT blessing can’t save (circumcision and the Law); two realities that determine genuine faith (faith and circumstances). Two reason why God writes His words down (Abraham's benefit and our benefit who trust death and resurrection of Christ).
II. He gives additional incredible blessings (5:1-21)
A new status (1 -11) peace, access, hope, assurance, confidence.

A new potential for total victory (12-21) one sin resulted in total disaster, one righteous act resulted in extreme blessing, one law resulted in superabundant Grace.
Ephesians 2:8-9
For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.
Ephesians 5:17-18
Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is. And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit,
Romans 1:16-17
For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “The just shall live by faith.”
Romans 4:4-5
Now to him who works, the wages are not counted as grace but as debt. But to him who does not work but believes on Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is accounted for righteousness,
