With the patient seated and the patient's head in the neural position, exert strong downward pressure on the head. Repeat the test with the head rotated bilaterally.
Foraminal Compression Test
With the patient seated, physician will laterally flex the neck and exert strong downward pressure on the head. Do test bilaterally.
Jackson Compression Test
Indication: narrowing of the intervertebral foramina, compression of the facet joints on the side of lateral bending. Compression of the intervertebral disc in the cervical spine.
Laterally flex the seated patient's head and gradually apply strong downward pressure. If pain is elicited, the test is considered positive if no pain - put patients head neutral position and deliver blows to head
Spurlings test
Radicular pain indicate foraminal encroachment degenerating cervical intervertebral. disc defect with nerve root pressure.
Instruct patient to approx the chin to the shoulder and extend the neck - bilaterally
Maximal Foraminal Compression Test
(Pain onthe side of the head rotation with radiculer component may indicate nerve root compression on the side of head rotation.
With the patient seaated, passively flex the patients chin to the chest
L'hermitte's sign
With the patient seated, place downward pressure on the shoulder while laterally flexing the patients head to the opposite side
shoulder depression test
Withe the patient seated, grasp beneath the mastoid processes and press up on the patients head. This removes the weight of the patients head on the neck. (relief of local pain - foraminal encroachment or adisc defect)
Distraction Test
Instruct the seated patient to abduct the arm and place the hand on top of the head (this electates the suprascapular nerve, reducing the traction on the lower trunk of the brachial plexus)
Shoulder Abduction Test (Bakody's sign)
