What are fungi
Large microorganisms with thick cell walls. Eukaryotes.
Define yeast
Anaerobic single celled fungus. Often spherical. Reproduce with budding and division.
Define mold
Aerobic multicellular fungus, have hyphae, reproduce with division and budding
How do fungi cause disease
They adapt well to host environment, colonize skin, digest kerativ, have wide temp tolerance, have low O2 need. Suppress immune defences.
What are superficial mycoses
Occur on or near skin, mucous membranes, hair, nails. Tineas.
