Sentence

A sentence is made up of one or more words that create a complete thought

Subject

The part of a sentence that is doing something or about which something is being said.

Simple Subject

the subject without any words to describe or modify it.

Compound Subject

A subject that has two or more simple subjects in it.

Predicate

The part of a sentence that says something about the subject

Compound predicate

made up of two or more simple predicates.

Complete predicate

A simple predicate with all of the words that modify or change it.

Phrase

A group of related words that don’t have a subject or a predicate.

Clause

A group of related words with a subject and predicate.

Dependent Clause

clause does not present a complete thought and can’t be a sentence.

Indépendant clause.

It has a complete thought and can stand as its own sentence.

Simple sentence

A sentence with only one independent clause.

Compound sentence

A sentence made up of two or more simple sentences.

Complex sentence

Contains one independent clause, and one or more dependent clauses.

Subordinate Conjunction

A conjunction that connects a dependent clause with the main clause

Coordinate conjunction

A conjunction that connects two equal clauses, words, or phrases.

Prepositional phrase

Includes the preposition, the object of the preposition, and the modifiers of the object.
