ADULT Mouth-To-Mouth BREATHING
(1) HOLD victim's airway OPEN w/head tilt-chin lift
(2) PINCH nose CLOSED w/thumb&index finger
*Use hand on forehead
(3) Take REGULAR breath (NOT DEEP), SEAL your lips around victim's mouth, CREATE AIRTIGHT seal
(4) GIVE 1 breath (BLOW for about 1 sec.); WATCH chest rise as you provide breath
(5) If chest DOES NOT RISE; REPEAT HEAD TILT/CHIN LIFT
(6) GIVE a 2nd BREATH (blow for about 1 sec.); WATCH for chest for RISE
(7) IF FAIL to VENTILATE victim after 2 attempts, RETURN TO CHEST COMPRESSIONS
TECHNIQUES FOR GIVING BREATHS:
INFANT - Mouth-To-Mouth-and-Nose and Mouth-To-Mouth Breathing
*MOUTH-To-MOUTH-And-Nose (PREFERRED METHOD)
(1) Maintain a HEAD TILT/CHIN LIFT to keep AIRWAY OPEN
(2) Place MOUTH OVER infant's MOUTH AND NOSE; CREATE AIRTIGHT seal
(3) BLOW into Nose-and-Mouth; PAUSING TO INHALE BTWN BREATHS) to make chest RISE w/each breath
(4) IF chest DOES NOT RISE, repeat HEAD TILT/CHIN LIFT to REOPEN airway; TRY to GIVE a breath for chest rise
**MAY BE NECESSARY to MOVE the infant's head through a RANGE of positions to provide OPTIMAL airway patency and effective rescue breaths**
(5) When airway is OPEN, GIVE 2 breaths making chest RISE; Ma need to attempt several times
TECHNIQUES FOR GIVING BREATHS:
INFANT - Mouth-To-Mouth*
*USE IF YOU CANNOT COVER nose&mouth w/your mouth
(1) Maintain a HEAD TILT/CHIN LIFT to keep AIRWAY OPEN
(2) PINCH nose TIGHTLY w/thumb&forefinger
(3) MAKE a mouth-to-mouth SEAL
(4) PROVIDE 2 mouth-2-mouth breaths; Ensure chest rise
(5) IF chest DOES NOT RISE, repeat HEAD TILT/CHIN LIFT to REOPEN airway; TRY to GIVE a breath for chest rise
