Usualy seen in calves < 6 mos, at weaning, in feedlots
- 15-17 day incubation, not seen <3 weeks

Acute - D+ w/mucoid, bld

Distal ileum - Asexual. Cecum/colon- Sexual

Winter- Jan-March, Parasites enter extra-intestinal cells, become dormant. Stress/nutritional demands -> parasite returns

Nervous- E zuernii mainly, CNS signs also occur, 30% of cases
Small Ruminant Coccidiosis
Sheep
E. ahsata
E. ovina - white patches in SI
E. ovinoidalis - hemorrhagic diarrhea

Goat
E. arloingi
E. christensensi - white foci on SI villi
E. ninakohlyakimovae
- white plaques, mucosal surface of SI, cecum, colon

Decr weight gain, Angorra/young goats most impacted
Chicken Coccidiosis
E. necatrix - blood d+, lower SI, white foci
E. tenella - bloody d+, cecal core, anemia
- 2-6 wk chicks
Rabbit Coccidiosis
E. magna, intestinalis, perforans : possible d+
E. stiedae - Hepatic coccidiosis
- Bile duct epith hyperplasia
Geese Coccidiosis
E. truncata - renal tubular epith
- Enlarged kidneys, renal tubules packed w/urates, weak goslings
Isospora
Feal-oral transm of sporulated oocyst
Paratenic hosts in dog/cat spp
- Rodent ingests -> gut wall, enters extra-intestingal cells -> forms monozoic cyst
-> remanines viable, develops after ingestion in dog-> sporozoite released -> merogony in SI

Unsporulated oocyst - shed in feces
Sporogony - Environent
Merogony/gametogony - SI

Diarrhea, weakness
Eimeria & Isospora differences
Eimeria: Has micropyle/micropyle cap
4 sporocysts/oocyst, 2 sporozoites/sporocyst

Isospora - No micropyle/cap
2 sporocysts/oocyst, 4 sporozoites/sporocyst
Isospora suia
NPC (neonatal porcine coccidiosis) 7-10 days old
No paratenic host
Source - other neonates, maybe weanlings
Gaunt pigs w/acute d+, rare bld, whole litter not effected same time

Multiply in SI cells, cells destroyed -> Villous atrophy -> decr gut absorption (mal. d+)

Dx - Oocyst in Fecal float. Jeju/ileum - Fibrinonecrotic memb, villous atrophy, parasit
Tx - Marquis Oral Paste
