Define "Shock" |
Shock, also referred to as Hypoperfusion, is simply the inability of a person’s body to supply enough oxygen to meet the demands of his tissues. |
|
What are the 3 stages of shock? |
Compensated, Decompensated, and Irreversible |
|
Define "Compensated shock" |
Compensated shock is that which the body is effectively coping with via catecholamine (epinephrine & norepinephrine) release from the adrenal glands. |
|
What physiological changes occur in response to catecholamine release? |
+HR, +R, vasoconstriction |
|
Define "Decompensated shock" |
Decompensation occurs at the point where acidosis renders catecholamine release ineffective and the body can no longer keep perfusing tissue. |
