What must be done with your leading leg when rotating pole
When rotating right right leg must be low and locked
What is the purpose of guy wires?
Its purpose is to suppiort the pole and equalize the strain created when line conductors are dead ended on poles, or when the direction of the conductors causes an angle strain to be applied to the pole
what are the most common types of insulators?
-Pin type insulators
-post type insulators
-suspension/dead-end insulators
-spool and clevis type
post type insulator
to insulate and separate conductors form grounds and other lines. Porcelain insulators are mounted withe steel studs. Smaller insulators take a 5/8 threaded stud; larger insulators require a 3/4 stud. Post type insulators are installed on both primary distribution and high voltage transmission circuits. Conductors are either pre form tied, hand tied or clamped to the insulator.
Pin type insulator
The purpose of pin insulators is to insulate and separate conductors from grounds and other lines. porcelain insulators are mounted withe steel pins. Smaller insulators take a 1" threaded pin; larger ones require a 1-3/8 pin. Pin type insulators are mostly installed on primary distribution and secondary distribution circuits.
Suspension/dead end insulators
insulators that are attached to crossarms and towers with a conductor attached to the opposite end. They are used to dead end conductors or to support and angle when there is a change in the direction of conductors in a line.
Spool and clevis type insulators
Circular insulators used in combination with metal brackets, which in turn are installed on crossarms, poles and other conductor support brackets. They are used to dead-end or support secondary and service conductors.
What must be done with the tool before cutting a conductor
read manufactures's recommended usage
What length bolt is required for a crossarm when installing it?
Cross arm bolt is hole depth +6"
Brace bolt is hole depth +2"
What is the measurement below the crossarm hole for drilling hole for braces. (8 ft crossarm with 36" braces)
19 1/4"
down guy
a guy wire attached at or near the pole top that runs to a buried anchor and rod at ground level. its purpose is to support the pole and equalize the strain created when line conductors are dead ended on poles, or when the direction of the conductors causes an angle strain to be applied to the pole
Head Guy
head guy a guy wire attached to the top and running to a point below the top of the adjacent pole. Used to offset down hill strain of line conductors and balance uneven strains created by double dead ending line conductors of different weights back to back at the same position on the pole
Span Guy
A guy wire installed from the top of one pole to the top of an adjacent pole. Its purpose is to transfer strain created by conductors from the first pole to the second pole.

No more than 24"s
What is the proper gaff angle when climbing over crossarms?
30 degrees
What are the 3 steps to confirm proper attachment of the flip line?
Hear it, See it, Check it
What should be done with rope that shows evidence of high heat exposure or chemical contact?
removed from service
how strong is a spliced rope
80 to 90% as strong as the original rope
Which splice is used to secure the ends of a rope to keep them from untying?
back splice
What is the purpose of the fall arrest system
prevents employees from free falling to ground
What is a fall restraint system
prevents employees from approaching an edge
What is the 4:1 rule in ladder safety

what is an overhand knot used for
used to prevent the strands from unraveling, or as a stop knot to prevent the rope from slipping through a block.
what is a half hitch used for
used to throw around the end of an object to guide it or keep it erect while hoisting
What is a bowline used for?
used for a non slip loop in the end of a line

around the outside of the ladder.
Always perform a bore test unless all of what conditions are met? (4)
1. Ther will be no change in strain imparted on the pole by other than the climber's added weight
2. The climber will ascend to a maximum height of 15' to operate a switch or access a control box.
