what is nociceptive pain?
pain associated with tissue injury in the presence of normal neurological function. Can be treated with NSAIDs and opioids.
what is neuropathic pain?
pain associated with abnormal neuronal function in CNS or PNS.
Can be in absence of tissue injury. |
what is mixed type pain?
Combination of nociceptive and neuropathic pain.
what is psychogenic pain?
pain associated with emotional conflict
what are the three different types of fibers contained in the spinal nerve?
State in the order in which pain is perceived? |
1. A delta fibers- small , myelinated, rapidly conducting.
2. C fibers - unmyelinated, slow conduction 3. A beta fiber - low threshold, related to non noxious stimuli. |
which are the major excitatory NTs released in response to pain? and where do they bind?
glutamate and substance P.
They bind to AMPA type glutamate receptor. |
which NTs restabilize the membrane potential?
GABA or glycine
which natural molecules inhibit release of excitatory NTs from the presynaptic terminal
enkephalins
where in the brain is the noxious stimulus perceived?
thalamus, if you block VPL( ventral posteriolateral nucleus) you wont feel pain.
name a strong non opiate analgesic?
