What is the purpose of the CT fill?

This is where the transfer of heat actually occurs. The warm water is passed downward through very thin films as the fan pulls air over it.

What is the purpose of the drift eliminator?

It removes water droplets from the air that leaves the tower. The water that does escape is called the drift.

What is used for makeup to the CT?

Process water

What voltage is the CT Fan breaker and where is it fed from?

4106v, breaker is in B-3707

What voltage are the CT pumps and where are they fed from?

4106v, A is in B-3707 & B-3708

What can be done in the event of the loss of a CT vibration probe or in a severe thunderstorm to allow the fan to run?

Ensure the vibration indication wasn't true. The CT Fan has vibration bypasses on the dcs. One for the gearbox and one for the motor that can be activated to allow the fan continue running. Rounds must be made periodically when bypassed.

To reset you should inspect for real damage, shut the switch off, go to the breaker, turn estop off, hit reset, turn estop back on. If probe is bad it will need to be bypassed, restart fan from the ground.

What is the typical discharge pressure of the CT pumps?

50 psi - 60 psi

What should be taken into account when making CL2 adjustments to the CT?

Ambient temperature will effect evaporation rate.

Why should CL2 not be set above normal ranges when the tower has been without CL2?

This could cause algae to dislodge and get into the header and plug the coolers.

What should be done upon the loss of all CT pumps?

The process water backup should be put in and you should consider tying in the fire water cross ties

Where are the fittings located for the ct/Fire water cross ties?

TA's office

What can be done if the process water fill to the CT is out of service?

The CT level can be maintained using the fire water fill from the fire monitor.

What is the purpose of the Instrument air purge to the CT gearbox?

To prevent moisture intrusion and accumulation.

What should be done if the CT blow down flow transmitter will be out of service?

Notify EHS delivery tech.

What must be done to the CT when a freeze is expected? When should the fan be shut off?

Shut the fan off at 40°

Open the return bypass to divert water from the top of the CT to the bottom.

Close the CT distribution header BV.

Inspect tower periodically for ice formation.

What are the alarm settings for the CT gearbox, motor, and the trips for each?

Motor alarm = 0.5in / sec

Gearbox alarm = 0.7in / sec

Trips on both = 1.5in / sec

Where should you stand when starting the CT Fan?

You should be on the ground a safe distance away from the CT in case of failure.
