-unfeeling

"You don't feel anything and we feel too violently"

The socs don't feel because they don't have anything to feel from, they get what they want, they have everything. The greasers don't have much, and they have a drive to make them have something to feel, to want.

Explanation of symbolism of Mickey Mouse

Soda 'owned' Mickey Mouse, and he was taken away from him, just like his parents and his education. He grew up too fast, and has no innocence

Explanation of symbolism of Hair

The way to identify a Greaser is by his hair. Hair doesn't cost anything, and thats what they all can have.

Explanation of symbolism of Switchblade

The switchblade is used to protect yourself. When you have the switchblade, you aren't vulnerable.

Explanation of symbolism of Blue Mustang

The Greaser's don't have nice cars like that. They would rather walk than drive, to save money for gas when they really need it.

Explanation of symbolism of Rings on Soc's hand

Bob, who has the rings, is a Soc, and has money. He can have rings and much more without having to worry about money. If the Greasers had rings, they would have to be sold because they need the money for essentials.

Explanation of symbolism of The Country

No separate classes, gangs, fights. Relaxation and calm.

"The fight for self-preservation had hardened him beyond caring."

Dally had gone through so much, he did everything for himself to keep him alive. Noone really helped him, if someone would've, maybe he would care.

"Johnny, who wouldn't hurt a living thing on purpose, had taken a life."

Johnny had changed. He was 'tough' now. He hadn't done it just because, he had done it because he was using self-defense.

"So we'd have to be hermits for the rest of our lives, and never see anyone but Dally."

They went to Dally for help, he told them what to do, they were on the run.

"No, it wasn't Cherry the Soc helping us, it was Cherry the dreamer who watched sunsets and couldn't stand fights.

She was different. The Socs and Greasers might have something in common if you take away the money difference.

To the outside world, a Greaser is

nothing
