What is a cyclone?
Center of low atmospheric pressure
What is an anticyclone?
Center of high atmospheric pressure.
How does air move in a cyclone?
Air spirals inward and upward.
How does air move in an anticyclone?
Air spirals downward and outward.
Why are cyclones often associated with rainy weather?
As air rises it is cooled according to the adiabatic principle, allowing condensation and precipitations to begin.
How do Hadley cells form?
Air over the equator is heated and rises. The pressure gradient forces the air poleward. As the air moves poleward, the Coriolis force moves it westward, so it descends at about 30 degrees latitude, completing a convection loop.
