Purpose of Official Documents

Provides general gudlines for practice, basic standards. Revised every 5 years. Published annually. Ex/ Concept papers, guidelines, position papers, roles papers, specialized knowlege and skills papers, standards, statements, societal statements

Philosophical Base of OT

Purpose is to outline the foundational beliefs and values of the OT profession. Defines occupations and its role. Defines the context of occupation. Defines occ as the means and the ends of therapy. Occ is used for health promotion, mediation, and compensation.

Code of Ethics

Purpose: Principles, Educates public about princ., teaches expected conduct and behavior. Supports id and resolution of ethical delimmas. Main Points: Names and describes how principles are reflected in practice.

Enforcement Procedures of Code of Ethics

Purpose: to ensure COE compliance. Delineates: jurisdiction of enforcement, disciplinary action procedures, complaints processing procedures, defines decision making processes, defines appeals processes.

Standards of Practice

Minimal requ. of OT service delivery. Standards for educ./exam/licensure/registration, professional standing and responsibility, screening, evaluation, re-evaluation. Intervention. Outcomes.

Scope of Practice

OT's domain, Process of OT eval, intervention, and roles in lives of clients. Educ/Cert requirements. Informs public of OT scope. Defines: Strategies for intervention, factors affecting partipation in activities, focus and delivery of services, where OT's can practice, and educ and cert requirements.

Standards for Continuing Competence

AOTA: Ethics Commission and Educational Interventions. NBCOT/DORA: Can revoke certification.

Types of Ethical Sanctions and Process

Censures, Probation, Suspension, and Revocation. Must respond w/in 30 days.
