- The study of moral issues in the field of medical treatment and research and it has to do with the eithics of multiple medical disciplines and the distribution of scarce medical resources

- Ethics involves a value system in that our values dictate to us what we believe is right or wrong

Occupational Therapy Code of Ethics

- Based on 6 moral principles and standards


1. Beneficence - Encompasses all types of actions that are intented to help others, including preventing and removing harm.


2. Nonmaleficence - Doing no harm under any circumstances


3. Autonomy - practitioners mus follow a clients wishes within the accepted standards of care and always maintain and protect client confidentiality


4. Justice - following the rules for equitable treatment and benifits for all people regarles of any challenges they face.


5. Veracity - Being transparent and avoiding deception with clients and research participants, truthfulness


6. Fidelity - maintain good faith relationships between providers and recipients
