A hypothesis that treats one source of the Torah as products of human intellect, working in time.
Retribution Theology
The theology that assumes on the basis of faith in a just God, that justice will prevail: The righteous will be rewarded and the wicked will be punished.

A female prostitute who hid Hebrew spies in her house. In exchange for hiding them, her and her family were spared when Joshua’s tribe invaded.

Builder of the first temple in Jerusalem. Wise, wealthy, and powerful. The final king before northern Israel and Southern Kingdom of Judah split.

An Aramen city lying northeast of Israel. Was Israel's principle rival for power in the area.
Historical Narrative
A story of a historical event. The people and places are true, but it is written as a story.
Synonymous Parallelism
First line is repeated in second line

i. Psalm 119:105 illustrates synonymous parallelism: "Your word is a lamp to my feet
And a light to my path." (NASB)
Antithetic Parallelism
First line is contrast by the second line

i. A good man obtaineth favour of the LORD:
ii. But a man of wicked devices will He condemn.
Synthetic Parallelism
The second portion expands on the same topic and uses the same meter.

i. He established the earth on its foundations
ii. It shall not be moved forever and ever.
Emblematic Parallelism
The first line uses a figure of speech to illuminate the point conveyed by the second line

i. As the deer pants for streams of water,
ii. So my soul pants for you, O God.
Chiasm
