What law did the PL 94-142 establish and what did it do?

THe Preschool Incentive Grant Program was established which encourages but does not require states to serve 3-5 year olds with disabilities. LA has been praticing this since 1982.

P.L. 99-457
|
This law extended PL 94-142 and extended all rights and protections to children 3-5. It also reauthorized part H a voluntary program providing services to children birth through 2 years

Any child who meets the criteria for eligibility for special services will have this plan written for them. It is a written document that includes goals and objectives for the child for ONE YEAR>

IEP (individualized Education Plan. It is written documentation for one year. Includes Teacher, OT, PT, Speech, Adaptive PE, Teacher, Family, etc.

At 16 this plan is written along with the regular IEP. Goals for prevoc and voc skills can be considered. It is important for this to be considered before reaching 21.

ITP (Individual Transition Plan).
|

Similar to IEP. Written annually by a multidisciplinary team and parents for infants birth through two years of age. It must address the needs of both the child and the family

IFSP (Individual Family Service Plan). Written Annually for needs of both the CHILD and the FAMILY

A multidisciplinary team that includes all the people involved in assessing the child, such as: Teacher, Doctor, Psychologist, OT, PT, Speech Therapist, Adamptive P.E., Social Worker, etc.

IDT (Individual Diagnostic Team)

Whenever possible, the student should be with peers who are not disabled. If educationally relevant a child could receive related services along with an education, but this is NOT intended to be medically oriented.

LRE (Least Restrictive Environment)

which means to take these children out of institutions and put them into the mainstream of the educational process

Mainstreaming
|

This is similiar to mainstreaming. It means that the child with the special need stays in the classroom.

Inclusion

An educational trend for Special Education Teachers. Previously, they had specific degrees and could only work in a specific area. Now they are broadly educated to deal with a variety of problems which is similar to the ways OT's are already trained

Inclusion- the child stays in the classroom and the teacher attends the class with them.
