Foot
Plantar Fasciitis:Inflammation of the plantars fascia along the bottom of the foot, stretching from the calcaneous bone along the inside of the sole of the foot towards the toes

Arch Pain: arch of the foot transfers most of the weight from out body to the ground when in motion, poor biomechanical alignment can cause inflammation and pain in the arches
Ankle
Achilles Tendonitis: Inflammation of the Achilles Tendon mostly due to overpronation and/or a tight achilles tendon due to long distance running or age increase
Leg
Shin Splints: pain along the tibia due to increased force on the legs or biomechanical irregularities. Inflexibility in the plantar muscles are a large contributor to shin splints

Stress Fractures: Incomplete fractures cause by persistent unusual or irregular stress to the bone. Usually occurs in tibia or metatarsal bones
Knee
Patellofemoral Syndrome: caused by repeated contact of the posterior portion of the patella with the femur, causes softening of cartilage behind the knee and inflammation/pain. Also caused by flat feet
Hip
Illiotibial band syndrome: excessive rubbing of the illiotibial band (band of tissue extending from the pelvis to the tibia) over the lateral femoral epichondyle causing pain and inflammation of the hip. Caused by pronation of foot or excessive flexion and extention of the knee (as in running)
Plantar Fasciitis: Causes
Cause: can be caused by both flat feet or high arches
-long distance running or running on uneven surfaces
-tight achilles tendon
-shoes with poor arch support
-pronation or abnormal gait
Plantar Fasciitis: Indications and Symptoms
sharp or dull ache in the heel or bottom of the foot
worst pain in the morning, worsens as one is on their feet for long periods of time or immediately after intense activity
Plantar Fasciitis: Treatment
can be as simple as shoes with better arch support or as complex as surgery. Usually heel exercises to increase flexibility achilles tendon are suggested
Plantar Fasciitis: OTC options
taping techniques, arch wraps, gel inserts can provide support to a multitude of people

Ex) Heel Pain Relief by Dr Scholls focusing on arch support
What do Orthotics do?
Orthotics should control motion, reducing excessive muscle activity, support the foot in a neutral position, and lessen and redistribute shock
What are signs that I need orthotics?
Check to see what type of feet you have (flat, high arch, pronation) and address it to prevent future complications

Check your feet for callouses, bunyons, blisters to become aware of areas of your feet that are subject to increased pressure
What injuries can orthotics help with?
• Patellofemoral pain (under the kneecap)
• Tibial stress syndrome (shin splints)
• Achilles tendinitis
• Plantar fasciitis
• Patellar tendinitis
• Iliotibial band problems
• Metatarsalgia (pain in the ball of the foot

simply by providing the correct support to the arches can reduce pain and possible injury greatly
