Baptism is the immersion of a believer in christ in water in name of the Father, Son, Holy spirit.

It is to declare the inward washing away of our sins.
Why do you believe that immersion is the only proper method?
Because it is the only method that will demonstrate the death, burial, resurrection. The bible says that we are born of christ by baptism. Romans 6:3-4 "Know ye not,that so many of us where baptized into his death? Therefore, we are buried with by baptism into his death; that like as christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the father, even so, we should walk in newness of life."
Can any other method show death, burial, and resurrection?
No

Have you proof that immersion is the proper way of baptism?
By circumstantial evidence and historical records. John baptized in Enon because there was much water. Jesus went down in the Jordan to be baptized by John. Philip and the eunuch went down into the river. Acts 8:36-39; Matthew3:13-16.
Would it had been necessary for them to have come down into the water to be sprinkled?
No.
Why then did they go down into the river?
To be immersed.
