-bacteria break through to pulp chamber
-immune system has organized retreate in pulp chamber (MOs & PMNs = sacroficial wall of protection)
How gain access to pulp chamber?
-infection via trauma
-carious lesion
-leaky restoration
-periodontal ligament infection
Pulpitis degrees of infection

-tends because carious lesion
-(++++) lactobacilli
2. Established
-(+) lactobacilli (drops considerably)
-polyclonal gram neg start to take over
3. Advanced
-symptomatic
-lacto gone
-mostly anarobic/facultative gram neg
What is the exception of gram neg subgingival bacteria?
-enterococcus: gram + cocci
-assoc w/ failed RC therapy
>90% monoclonal enterococcus fecalis
Quarum sensing and Pulpitis
-explain how pulp infections can smolder for extended period of time and then seem to 'blow-up'
