* purpose is to test if the agent or treatment actually works. *conducted on population that is susceptible to the disease/condition being studied. -susceptibility could be based on age, gender, race, SES, location *very controlled experiment - control group, double blind - application of agent/Tx is applied properly (either by participant or professional) & exactly the same every time - supervised by a professional *EXAMPLE: Efficacy trial of a power toothbrush to reduce gingivitis in a sample of people w/gingivitis. Supervised to ensure appropriate usage of power toothbrush. |
