Technology that manages and allows a user to interact with applications, folders and physical features of a computer.

Some consider it front end because the user interacts with it. Some consider it back end because it connects to the infrastructure. We consider it a bridge.

Microsoft's Operating System.
Closed OS / Out of the Box Solution.

Like a suspension bridge - kinda flashy and completely finished. No changes can be made.

Open Source Operating System.
Completely customizable - like a plank bridge that can adjust to fit specific needs.

A communal library of code. Free to use, but improvements should be shared withe community.

Open Source Operating System that is configured and built by a Company that will take responsibility for issues that may occur.

This OS is like a draw bridge because it comes pre-built but can be customized to fit a company's needs (like the bridge going up or down).
iOS
OS specific to Apple's mobile products like the iphone or ipad.

Closed Source Operating System.
OS Administrator
Like a butler, this person makes sure that the OS is running correctly and keeps it maintained.

These people are specialists in one type of OS or another.
Helpdesk
The fix it guy when it comes to OS.

This person comes in when your wireless isn't connecting or you can't print. They fix the issue.
OS Architect
Used when a company is building their OS from scratch, like with Unix.

This person creates the blueprint for the OS.
OS Engineer
Used when a company is customizing their Unix or Linux OS, or when building out their OS from scratch.

This person decides which code to use and does the advanced coding to build the OS.
OS Developer
Used when a company is customizing their Unix or Linux OS, or when building out their OS from scratch.

This person uses code to build out those customizations or features of the OS.
