Action: 5HT3 antagonist which blocks receptors both centrally and peripherally

-Undifferentiated nausea and vomiting


-Prophylaxis for spinal immobilization and eye trauma


-Vestibular nausea in pts

Contraindications

-Known hypersensitivity


-Concurrent apomorphine use


-Known long Q-T syndrome


-Hypokalaemia or hypomagnesaemia

Precautions

-Pts with liver disease should not exceed 8mg a day


-Pts on diuretics with electrolyte imbalance


-Pts with phenylketonuria


-Concurrent use with tramadol


-Pregnancy

Side effects

Common:


-Constipation


-Headache


-Fever


-Dizziness


-Rise in liver enzymes



Rare:


-Hypersensitivity reactions (including anaphylaxis)


-Q-T prolongation


-Widened QRS complex


-Tachyarrythmias


-Seizures


-Extrapyramidal reaction


-Visual disturbances
