Apley scratch test
reach behind head to middle back with one arm with other arm reach behind body to touch middle of back
Jobes test
Supraspinatus tendinitis, Patient stands, abducts his arm to 90 degrees at the shoulder with elbows extended, maximally internally rotated and forward flexed at 30degrees. Physician places a downward force on pts arms pt is asked to resist motion
Drop arm test
Pts arm is passivly abducted to 90 degrees. Pt is then asked to slowly lower arm. Positive if arm drops quickly. (Supraspinatus)
Scapular winging
Pt stands and places hands against wall and pushes. Physician looks for winging of scapula
Aprehension test for anterior shoulder dislocation
pt is supine, abduct and externally rotate pt arm. If shoulder is unstable pt will look aprehensive
Speed's sign for bicep's tendonitis
Pt.seated, slightly flex his shoulders, extend elbows, and fully supinate forearm. Ask pt to raise arms and physician will resist. Positive with pain along biceps tendon.
Crossover test
Tests for AC joint pathology. Adduct patients arm across chest to touch opposite shoulder. Pain indicates AC pathology.
Impingment sign
Arm is abducted to 180 degrees by physician.
Hawkins teat
Flexing and internally rotating the shoulder while placing downward pressure on the patients wrist. Will cause pain in shoulder if impingment is present
Neer's Test
Flexing the arm in interal rotation
Spencer's technique
1) extension at GH joint elbow flexed
2) Flexion at GH joint with elbow extended
3) Shoulder 90 degree abduction small circles
4) shoulder 90 degrees elbow extended circles
5) Chicken wing
6) Shoulder abducted , elbow flexed, and hand behind the back. Pull elbow forward
7) Elbow extended, wrist on physician's shoulder. Physician grasps humerus distal to GH joint applies traction/distraction
