1 Kings 6:1

An important passage to help us calculate the year the Israelites left Egypt.

The Book of Joshua

Purpose: to give an official account of the historical fulfillment of the LORD's promise to give the Israelites the land of Canaan by holy war.

The Israelites enter the promised land

The Israelites crossed the Jordan River into the promised land on the 10th day of the 1st month, in approximately 1406 BC.

The Passover

The Israelites first observed the Passover in the promised land on the 14th day of the 1st month.

Gilgal (Map)

Gilgal

Literally means "to roll away." Where the Israelites first camped when they entered Canaan, and where their circumcising took place. Remains central encampment through conquests.

1st city the Israelites conquered in Canaan; one of three cities to have been burned (Ai; Hazor)

The 2 mountains where Israel renewed their covenant with the LORD and recited the blessings and cursings.

After the death of Joshua the LORD directed the tribe of Judah to take the lead in warring against the Canaanites.

The LORD allowed Canaanite nations to remain in the land in order to test the Israelites' obedience.
