What is Pulverization by Intervention?
Name an example. |
Reduction & subdivision of substances with an additional material (i.e. solvent) that can be removed easily after pulverization is complete.
Often used for gummy substances that re-agglomerate or resist grinding (e.g. menthol with alcohol) |
Do eutectic mixtures need a facilitator?
No. They are easily incorporated into any ointment base type without need of a facilitator.
When do you not use facilitators with powders?
Light-weight, bulky powders or powders that constitute > 50%+ of the ointment may be levigated with an equal portion of base.
Excessive amounts of liquid levigation may render ointment too fluid if facilitators used. |
How much levigating agents necessary for powders?
Between half to twice the amount of powder (0.5x up to 2x)
