Section One |
George and Lennie rest in a small clearing near a river, on the way to their new job. Left hurriedly from their last ranch, and the men discuss their 'dream ranch'. |

Section Two |
George and Lennie arrive at the ranch, go to the bunkhouse and meet other characters. Slim is friendly, Lennie asks if he can have a puppy as a pet. |

Section Three |
Slim realises Lennie has the mentality of a child and George tells him about the incident in Weed. Candy's dog gets shot, and he joins in the idea of the dream ranch. Lennie fights Curley, Slim persuaded him to say it was a machine. |

Section Four |
The men go to town, except Lennie, Candy and Crooks. Crooks panics Lennie, and is forced to apologise to him to calm him down. Lennie tells Crooks about their intentions to buy a ranch - Curley's wife interrupts and uses her white woman superior to attack Crooks verbally. |

Section Five |
Lennie accidentally kills his pup, Curley's wife comes in the barn and flirts - until Lennie breaks her neck. He buries her in the straw and runs away. Candy finds the body, Curley organises a man-hunt for Lennie in which George reluctantly joins. |

Section Six |
George meets Lennie at the clearing, and attempts to calm down Lennie by describing their dream ranch. George then shoots Lennie in the back of the head with Carlson's stolen gun. |
