What are the signs and symptoms of a closed pneumothorax?
sudden sharp pain on inspiration and with movement, dyspnea, restlessness, anxiet, increased Heart rate, decreased breathsounds and movement, no fremitus
What is an open pneumothorax?
air enters and exits from a hole in the chset wall, ( SUCKING chest wound), penetrating chest wound or surgery
What are the signs and symptoms or a open pneumothorax?
symptoms or a open pneumothorax? Same as a closed & air sucked in and out, mediastinal flutter with resperations, blood may bubble out of wound with experation
What is the treatment of an open pneumothorax?
COVER STAT, monitor for tension pneumothorax
What is a tension pneumothorax?
air can escape , causes preasure that leads to a mediastinal shift.( this compresses the heart, vessels and other lung)
what are the signs and symptoms of a tension pneumothorax?
PROFOUND DISTRESS, severe dyspnea, CO falls causesblood pressure to drop/ SHOCK, decreased heart sounds, decreased or absent lung sounds, and crepitus
What are the late signs of a tension pneumothorax?
JVD, Tracheal deviation, cyanosis
what do you do for tension pneumothorax?
release pressure stat! Needle and /or chest tube, O2
A tension pneumothorax can be prevented , HOW?
Dont clamp chest tube, watch for kinks, and clots
