Definition of Glomerulonephritis

An inflammatory reaction in the glomerulus most commonly as a result of an anitgen-antibody response to beta-hemolytic streptococci

May have: mild proteinuria and or asymtomatic hematuria; tea or cola colored urine; facial or periorbital edema; oliguria; mild to mod. HTN; azotemia (nitrogen waste products in the blood)

Tx for glomerulonephritis (do not include dietary here)

Diuretics (for edema and fluid overload); Antihypertensives; Antibiotics (if strep); Plamaphereis for filtering out immune complexes.

|
Decrease sodium and protein (if azotemic); often restrict potassium; fluid restrictions if unrinary output is decreased
