-Communication process - focuses on the pt.'s physical, psychological, biological, developmental, cultural, and spiritual responses that are amendable to the intervention and care of the Pt.

-To obtain an ACCURATE and COMPLETE data base on pt.
-Must gain pt trust, read and give cues, & able to listen
