Additive

A numeration system is additive if the overall value of any numeral in the system is the sum of the relative values of all symbols in the numeral

Base

A numeration system has a base if it reflects a process of repeated grouping by a unique number greater than one, called the "base", and all numbers in the system or written in terms of powers of this number

Place value

A numeration system is a place value system if the position of a symbol in a numeral determines its relative value
