Definition of rational numbers. |
Includes all fractions, decimals and whole numbers (integers) both negative and positive. (The term derives from the idea that a fraction represents a ratio. A rational number is any number that's ratio of two of two integers.) Eg - 3/8 because ratio of 3 divided by 8 - 0.8 because is ratio of 8 to 10 - 23 because 23 divided by 1 - -7 because is ratio -7 to 1

Any number that can be represented by a length or point on number line. The set of real numbers consists of all rational and irrational numbers. |

Definition of an irrational number. |
Any number that cannot be written exactly as one whole number divided by another. Eg square root of 2 or 50. |
